About Us
Chris Johnson
Back in 2002 I decided to dive into the world of photography. I purchased
a Nikon N80 film camera and set to work capturing the people, places, and
natural beauty I see every day. The sharp, colorful images I saw beneath
my loupe and upon my lightbox from the film I was using did not outweigh the
frustration
of having to wait to develop traditional film, and my skill as a photographer
was not improving as quickly as I would have liked. So, after much deliberation,
I switched to a Canon system and discovered the world of digital. Since then,
I have captured thousands of images and have been able to more fully explore
technique, style, and art in my photographs.
Niki and I have traveled to many places and I have recorded our journeys on camera. However, my favorite place of study is my "office" - Juno Beach, Florida. I am a marine biologist and I focus my research on threatened and endangered sea turtles that nest on Florida’s beaches and utilize the offshore reefs as critical developmental and foraging habitat. My job as a turtle biologist allows me to closely observe these animals, to examine their important role in our coastal community, and to document the ways in which humans affect their life cycles.
My images attempt to capture sea turtles in their natural environment, behaving as only sea turtles can, and to show their timeless beauty. I also hope to educate my audience on the threats these species face and the impacts humans have on their health and survival.

My artistic pursuits put me behind the canvas or drawing board, not so
much the camera. My talent lends itself more to paint, pencil and paper.
I have a minor in Studio Art and pursued painting and drawing in college.
Previously my art centered on water and the fluid nature of things. My
artwork focused on the harmony of nature and the form and function of
aquatic creatures. Lately, however, I am involved more in graphic design
and display. I created educational guides/activity books for children
when I was an intern at Florida Power and Light, Co. Working as a volunteer
for the Marinelife Center of Juno Beach, I created a sign for the fundraising
campaign for the new Marinelife Center facility. I have also had the
opportunity to help friends design tee shirts and logos for various events
and/or research projects. Someday I hope to increase my knowledge and
skill as a photographer, but for now I’m quite happy to watch and
learn from Chris.
